The
Anthonian Museum, reopened in 1995, offers
a unique look at the artistic treasures
produced over the centuries for the Basilica and
for the Venerable Ark of St. Anthony: paintings,
sculptures, plaster figures, sacred vestments,
tapestries, jewellery, which until recently were
not available for public viewing.
Authentic works of art are exhibited: the
frescoed lunette by Mantegna for
the Basilica's doorway, the wooden marquetry
of the fifteenth century, the precious incense
boat of gold by sixteenth century German goldsmiths,
altar pieces by Tiepolo and Piazzetta,
a rare liturgical vestment woven in Lyon
in the eighteenth century.
